We take safety very seriously at Central Penn Sporting Clays. Here is our list of safety policies and procedures for everyone on the course, whether they are shooting or observing.
- We require all on the course wear eye and ear protection. This is regardless if you are shooting or not.
- A safety presentation will be given to all shooters prior to entering the course.
- No more than 2 shells are permitted in the gun at a time.
- The gun can only be loaded with the barrel of the shotgun over the railing of the stand. After shooting your 2 shots, the action MUST be open, displaying an empty chamber. The gun must remain open for all to see when walking to the next station.
- Only 7, 7.5, or 8 low brass shells are permitted on the course.
- If any gun jams occurs or if you have questions, the gun must remain over the railing. A staff member will then take over the firearm and correct the issue.
- There will always be at least 2 staff members on each half of the course in orange Kubotas available to help with any difficulties and correcting any safety issues. The more shooters on the course, the more staff on the course.
- Before the event begins, all novice shooters are invited to a beginner’s training on their firearms.
- When renting a shotgun from Central Penn, the recipient will most likely be given an over/under firearm. This is the most simplistic of shotguns. The participant will be given individual instruction until they are comfortable. It is encouraged that more than one participant “share” a firearm and learn the use of the gun together. This reinforces the use and safety of the firearm.
- If staff feels hesitant with any participant, we will go with the participant to the course and accompany them to stations until they are comfortable and we are comfortable the participant is competent with firearm.
